 The Innovation Hub Press Release

The Innovation Hub wins award for skills development programme

Issued by: The Innovation Hub
[Tshwane, 8 September 2016]

The world is moving at an accelerated pace, and in order for South Africa to be globally competitive and contribute meaningfully to the economy, it is crucial that relevant skills are taught, especially to the youth.

The Skills Development Summit took place on 25 and 26 August at the CSIR, in Pretoria, where hundreds of industry experts, government institutions and trade councils discussed current challenges and engaged in possible solutions to meet the skills deficiency in South Africa.

The summit was hosted in partnership with the Fibre Processing & Manufacturing (FP & M) SETA and concluded with the much anticipated Achievers' Awards.

The Innovation Hub's skills development programme, CoachLab, was nominated in two categories, namely: Best Graduate Trainee Programme and the Best Innovative Training Programme. The evening ended with the Best Innovative Training Programme being awarded to CoachLab, for being the "most innovative and progressive training programme in all mediums of creativity and highlighted originality in the process".

The Achiever Awards honour companies of all sizes, including government departments and organisations that have demonstrated their commitment to the advancement of their employees' skills base by implementing skills development and training programmes that are relevant, innovative and effective.

As a subsidiary company of GGDA, The Innovation Hub (TIH) is committed to providing high-end skills for a competitive Gauteng City region. As such, its skills development programmes have three main objectives, which are to increase the efficiency of public service delivery; create decent jobs; and improve the livelihood of our citizens.

These objectives cannot be met by an unskilled workforce. TIH provides the youth with relevant skills that will enable them to be part of the knowledge economy and make a positive economic impact through a skills development programme that has been recognised as innovative, exceptionally creative and relevant to the respective industry," said Tsietsi Maleho, General Manager: Skills Development at The Innovation Hub.
