The University of KwaZulu-Natal mourns the passing of Nomzamo Winnie Madikizela-Mandela and conveys condolences to her family and the South African people on this sad occasion. She was affectionately known as Mama Winnie to many.
During the struggle years, she was the voice of the ANC and she addressed many student gatherings at universities.
Madikizela-Mandela will be remembered as a fearless freedom fighter, a woman of immeasurable strength and a heroine of the struggle for liberation in South Africa.
All flags on all of the campuses will fly at half-mast as a tribute to the struggle stalwart.
Mama Winnie will be sorely missed by many South Africans for her formidable contribution to South African democracy.
