UKZN’s College of Agriculture, Engineering and Science (CAES) recently took part in a three-day Grade 9 Expo, hosted by the eThekwini Municipality, in partnership with the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Education.

The purpose of the expo was to empower learners with information about potential career paths. Three hundred learners from different schools in and around eThekwini attended daily, flocking to the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre (ICC) to hear more about the correct subject choices they should choose to pursue a career in the agricultural, engineering and science sector.

Representatives from the college’s five schools showcased their work to the learners and answered learners’ questions.

It was a busy three days, with lecturers, students and staff all coming together to share their knowledge and advise learners on the importance of taking core mathematics and science if they want to pursue a career in this sector.

Learners were able to test equipment and view experiments from the various schools and disciplines. Learners also listened to presentations by various speakers from the municipality and other institutions on subject choices.

The event was deemed a success, with the participation of CAES academics, students and staff making it even more worthwhile for the learners.
