FOXit, a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner and service provider focused on project and portfolio management (PPM) in business, has developed and introduced a data visualisation product called PIVOTit to the global market. PIVOTit provides a graphical view of data collections and offers real-time data collation and enhanced management capability.
The product was initially aimed at organisations with Microsoft Project Server 2010 and SharePoint Server 2010 implementations.
“We are talking about a product that offers up significantly more than the old tabular or charting products,” explains Aldo van Tonder, CEO at FOXit. “Its core value lies in the use of Microsoft's PivotViewer technology for Silverlight to provide any business, in any industry, the ability to visualise thousands of seemingly unrelated items simultaneously.”
Each item of data is represented by an image in the viewer, along with attributes or metadata used to describe the data. Items are then grouped into collections and the relationships between multiple collections can be viewed.
A resource collection has been developed against Microsoft Project Server 2010, to show resource information from the Microsoft PPM solution, which can be combined with human resource information from other systems.
The images representing the resources can be stored in either Active Directory or SharePoint, be it the User Profile or a library. This gives customers the option of storing the images in Active Directory if they do not have a SharePoint implementation.
A faceted search already familiar to SharePoint users enables quick filtering of relevant data. As the facets are modified, the viewer animates the changes of the search results in either a grid or a graph view. By leveraging Microsoft's Deep Zoom technology, high-resolution images are displayed, enabling a consistent and rich user experience.
“Data management is a crucial facet of any credible business, particularly across large enterprises. This solution enables these businesses to go through substantial volumes of information and numerous records instantly, without any impact on user experience. It represents major value to executives, managers and analysts,” Van Tonder continues.
The company continues to monitor the rapid progress within data and project management, which according to Van Tonder, is ideally positioned to roll-out solutions that make a lasting difference to clients.
