Physical asset management company, Pragma, walked away with top honours at the recent prestigious Shell Batho Pele Awards, acknowledging the company’s outstanding health, safety, security and environment (HSSE) performance in the Shell retail network in South Africa.
The Shell Retail and Pragma team of Ronnie Taljaard, Edna Jackson, Andre Cloete, Haroon Coovadia, Richard Hunter and Allan Lawrence won the team trophy.
These individuals all work for the Pragma Facilities Management Centre, which is responsible for Shell Retail facilities and contractor management in South Africa. The team was awarded for their efforts in significantly reducing exposure hours, thereby reducing HSSE risks with the associated activities.
Says Ronnie Taljaard, Operations Manager at Pragma: “The Pragma FMC effort has been well recognised and appreciated, which will encourage our guys to do even better in the time ahead, forever striving towards the objective of GOAL ZERO - no harm to people, assets, environment and reputation.”Haroon Coovadia, Network Delivery Manager, Shell SA Marketing, adds: “The award is a manifestation of a commitment to making the partnership model work. Our journey has just started and we still have a long way to go. Contractor safety remains Shell Retail’s biggest risk. With Pragma as our FMC, I’m confident that together we’re going to do even more next year. The award is the perfect platform to fill us with a renewed sense of energy and purpose. It’s a reminder that there is no shortcut to laser sharp focus and execution. A special thanks to the Pragma team for getting the message around the importance of addressing exposure hours.”
Concludes Ronnie Taljaard: “We really value this recognition by Shell SA. We’re committed to the continued improvement of HSSE on Shell sites, and also in the broader South African community. Jointly, the Shell and Pragma FMC partnership has already reduced the exposure hours pertaining to maintenance activities in the network by more than a third since 2011! We’ll keep our focus on further reducing exposure hours during 2013.”
