With legislation requiring that municipal entities follow a structured approach to maintaining infrastructure, eThekwini Electricity has engaged Pragma to assist them in the process. The contract was awarded after a tender process with its key framework to be adopted being PAS 55.
Says Steve Leech, KwaZulu-Natal Regional Manager: “We successfully won the tender based on our asset management framework and history of past and current projects, and really look forward to working with eThekwini Electricity on this project.”
The contract requires that Pragma ensures effective asset management is embedded within the Electricity Unit. Leech continues: “eThekwini Electricity needed a service provider to assist with harnessing the current project benefits and complete all outstanding tasks by continuing to deliver an onsite Asset Care Centre (ACC) to manage and improve asset management best practices. The contract will continue until end August 2014. The ACC's purpose includes the development, implementation and management of an Asset Management Charter as well as the support and management of PAS 55 aligned asset management activities through the use of the Unit’s Ellipse Enterprise Asset Management System (EAMS) and Geographic Information System (GIS) where required.
“Pragma also assist with the development and implementation of structured business processes for the management of daily asset management activities, measuring the effectiveness of assets and continuously improving asset management performance. Furthermore, Pragma assists with effectively managing all information by ensuring the data velocity and quality is appropriate, optimising the analysis of data collected through work execution and developing, updating and planning of maintenance activities. Lastly, Pragma will also be involved with the development and facilitation of root cause analysis (RCA) sessions,” says Leech.
“Pragma will develop and update the Unit’s asset management plan and using the Ellipse EAMS and GIS systems, implement and maintain asset management best practices and processes that will provide effective operational, tactical and strategic management reports required for the business.”
Leech says that all phases of the contract will run in parallel and Pragma’s Partner Support will assist with key consulting activities. “All activity timelines are governed by a master plan as per the Asset Managemnt Improvement Plan (AMIP) assessment completed in June of this year. There will be a staff complement of 17 working on this project.”
Leech concludes: “The project is challenging and exciting and we’re eager to get The Pragma Way working successfully at one of the biggest municipalities in the country.”
