In October 2009, Qatar Airways completed the
world’s first commercial passenger flight
powered by gas-to-liquids (GTL) jet fuel.
The flight from London Gatwick to Doha was
taken in an Airbus A340-600.In January 2010,
Qatar Airways and several Qatar-based and
international industry partners established
the Qatar Advanced Biofuel Platform. This
initiative seeks to develop advanced
technology, an engineering and
implementation plan, an investment strategy,
and an ongoing market and strategic analysis
of biofuel development.
