Jean du Plessis, Head of Engineering and Development at Quirk, took top honours in the Information, Communication and Technology (ICT) category at the Rising Star Awards last night.
The Rising Star Awards have been designed to unearth and recognise passionate and inspirational individuals who have a capacity for achievement and success. It acknowledges young people, under the age of 40, who are shaping the future of South Africa with energy and dedication through their work.
One of our QuirkStars, Jean du Plessis, Head of Engineering and Development at Quirk, took top honours in the Information, Communication & Technology category at the Rising Star Awards last night.
“We are very proud of Jean. What he has achieved in his career inspires others to be ambitious and strive to achieve what they wish for,” said Rob Stokes, group CEO and founder of Quirk.
For the first six years of his career, Jean specialised as a Java Web developer, but his passion for front-end Web development afforded him the opportunity to initiate and lead a front-end development team at Quirk. In just over a year, he earned a senior management position where he oversees both engineering and development teams in the agency.
“Quirk is passionate about recognising and promoting talent within our agency. We work hard to foster a platform for our talent to produce great things, and Jean is just one of many bright stars in our agency,” said Justin Spratt, agency CEO.
Two of the five finalists in the ICT category came from Quirk, with Siyakamela Makoma, a Web analyst at Quirk's Cape Town agency, also being nominated as a finalist.
