FedGroup Financial Services, along with ASISA, the FSB and other financial institutions, came together to celebrate life at the SOS Children's Village on Wednesday. The reason for the celebration - a generous donation of R450 000 that ASISA handed over to the SOS Children's Village, on behalf of the contributing financial institutions.

The partnership that brought together various financial institutions was first established at the 2011 ASISA conference, where a wish-list for the SOS Rustenburg Village was shared. Thanking the contributors in attendance, Corporate Fundraiser, Ted Taylor, emphasised the need for partnerships:

“We believe in partnerships, because we cannot do this alone.” The donated funds will be utilised to purchase bunk beds and stationery. Furthermore, funds will contribute to covering school sponsorships and medical expenses.

Attending the celebration was Lydia Ackerman, who, along with her three siblings, became one of the first families to be taken into the SOS Children's Village in Ennerdale. Lydia, who is now the owner of her own PR and Communications company, expressed her gratitude to those who contributed:

“Because of you giving, I had a better life. Because of you giving, 7 000 other children can have a better life.” Her sentiment was echoed by the children from Ennerdale Village, who delighted those in attendance with a variety of enthusiastically performed nursery rhymes.

The SOS Children's Village South Africa is a sustainable, independent, non-profit, charitable and social development organisation. FedGroup's donation to the organisation stems from the strong family ethos that characterises the company.

Walter van der Merwe, CEO of FedGroup Life, explained the Group's reasons for donating:

“FedGroup is a family-owned investment and trust company. Family forms the cornerstone of all that we do, may it be internal operations, client services or relationships that we nurture at an event like today.

As a family, we invest in our people; we invest in the children of the beneficiary funds that we look after.

Our donation to the SOS Children's Village is no different to the investment that we make in our beneficiaries. Through an ethic of care, the FedGroup family hopes to ensure that, regardless of their circumstances, children are given access to the tools they require for optimal development, thus improving the chances of a productive South African society.”
