MTN brings connectivity to Gautrain

Starting from today, frustrated commuters using the Gautrain will be able to have access to seamless voice and data services, following MTN's installation of a high-speed network.

Until now, commuters using the Gautrain could not use their mobile devices due to unavailability of connectivity on this rapid transit railway system.

At the launch on 3 July, the MTN network will be live at the Park Station, Sandton and Rosebank stations. The other stations will be covered by existing infrastructure.

MTN also announced it will be further deploying its network to blanket other parts of the Gautrain network. Eben Albertyn, Chief Technical Officer: MTN South Africa, says the profile of Gautrain commuters are customers who always seek and demand seamless connectivity on the go.

"MTN is pleased to offer this much-needed connectivity for its customers using the Gautrain; the provision of this connectivity to Gautrain will ensure that our customers stay connected while in transit, without the inconvenience of only catching up when they disembark," says Albertyn.

"MTN's focus is customer experience and we continue to invest in our network for a superior coverage and seamless network quality," Albertyn concludes.

MTN's network deployment on Gautrain comes in the backdrop of a partnership that Vodacom signed with the Department of Roads and Transport, the Gautrain Management Agency, Bombela Concession Company and the Strategic Partners Group, to implement a communication solution to ensure the stations no longer have coverage dead zones.
