"I was looking for a job when MTN called me to inform me that I was the winner of the grand prize. I missed the actual call from MTN, and called back hoping that the call might be from a prospective employer as I am in the market for a job, only to find out that it's a life-changing call informing me that I am the winner of this grand prize. I am so thankful to MTN for granting us this opportunity and I would like to encourage other customers out there to participate on these online competitions as this might be one way of realising their dreams," says Sitatela.
The Upstream competition was launched in October last year and closed at the beginning of February 2017. This knowledge-based competition, which attracted in excess of five million participants, rewarded customers with points for each correct answer and bonus points for getting a stipulated number of consecutive answers correct.
After opting in, contestants received trivia questions on a range of different topics, which included general trivia, science, nature, sports and technology.
To participate in the MTN Upstream competition, subscribers had to SMS the word 'WIN' to 30640 at no cost and collected points for every answer they got right.
