Make the most of open days
Are you an aspiring higher education student, or a parent of one? If yes, then you should really take open days seriously and learn how to make the best of them.
Rosebank College, an educational brand of The Independent Institute of Education (The IIE), will host its national open day on 24 and 25 June 2016 from 9am to 3pm at all of its campuses.
Prospective students, students currently in matric, learners who have already matriculated and are looking to start studying in 2017 and parents of prospective students are encouraged to attend. "This year Rosebank College will host only one Open Day which will take place simultaneously at our various campuses around South Africa and we encourage you to attend. This is an opportunity for you to learn more about The Independent Institute of Education, Rosebank College and the various qualifications on offer," says James Read, National Sales Manager at Rosebank College.
Open Days are a fun way to get a taste of tertiary life, to find information you need to narrow down your options and make a well-informed decision about what and where to study.
"Prospective students will get a feel of the campus, student life and will also get a chance to interact with staff and fellow students. Students should come prepared with all their questions so that they can receive information on courses and careers that they may be interested in. Information will also be given on accommodation and finance providers. Some of the activities of the day will include campus tours, faculty presentations and competitions," adds Read.
In order to get the most out of the day make sure to prepare as much as possible, checking out the courses you are interested in before you arrive. You can do that (here on the college's Programmes page).
Download or print its map to make sure you know exactly where you are going. Rosebank College currently has five campuses, and they are spread across South Africa.
"I would strongly suggest that you go as far as sketch out some questions that you need answers to. Our students advisors will be happy to assist," says Read.
Some important questions to ask are:
* What marks do you need - and can you still get a place if you don't quite get the marks? * What are the entry requirements? * Can I apply for more than one course? * How do they select which candidates to make offers to? * What do they look for in your application and personal statement? * Can they recommend any reading or activities to inform your personal statement? * Do they hold interviews or is selection based solely on your marks? * How do they feel about gap years and deferred entry applications? * Is it an advantage to get your application in early?
Rosebank College will host its national open day at its Braamfontein, Pretoria CBD, Pretoria, Sunnyside, Durban and Polokwane campuses on the said dates. If you wish to apply on the day bring R150, a copy of the student's ID, and matric results for those who have already completed matric.
