How to prepare for your first day of tertiary

The transition from high school to tertiary is a big one, and it's worth preparing yourself for the changes that surely await you. Luckily for you, we have come up with tips on how to get ready for your first day of tertiary.

1. Attend orientation week

Orientation or O week as it's also called, is Rosebank College's way of welcoming you. During orientation you will get to meet staff and also check out its facilities. Campus tours will be arranged to show you the different aspects of student life, while also offering tips and useful advice on how to transition from high school to tertiary. Orientation will take place during the week of12 to 16 February 2018. It's advisable that you attend as you will receive training on how to use the student portal, make new friends and will get a much better idea of how to survive your first year. Timetables and student cards will also be issued during this week. But more importantly, it's also a lot of fun.

2. Find out which books you need

3. Find out about the best transport option for you

All Rosebank College's campuses are situated in easy access areas, allowing students a variety of options to choose from when commuting to and from campus. Whether you drive, take a taxi, bus or train - find out which option is best for you and will make sure that you are always on time for class.

4. Always have your student card handy

Getting around campus is very difficult without your student card. You will need one to enter the school premises and move in and around campus. Make sure you have one and keep it safe as you will need to buy a new one if it gets lost.

5. Double check your group number

Your RSBF (group) number can be found on the student portal. This number determines which classes you attend.

6. Bring a notebook and pen

Classes start immediately on 19 February 2018, so make sure you are ready to hit the ground running. Have your pen/pencil and any other stationery you will need to take notes.

7. Access your study manuals

Study manuals offer guidelines on what will be covered in class. Make sure that you access these ahead of class so that you don't find yourself totally lost during class.

8. Relax

Now that you have done all the necessary preparation, hang ten and relax. This is truly the beginning of some of the best years of your life. Enjoy every minute of it.
