Motivation key to performance improvement in the workplace

Happy employees make all the difference in ensuring that companies meet their targets and that staff retention and productivity remain high.

Workplace health and wellness programmes should be a part of the overall company strategy for a healthy workplace. However, in most cases, these programmes simply offer information to workers, focusing primarily on the body.

"Companies often forget about a healthy and motivated mind, which is where Rosebank College saw the gap, introducing an Educational Wellness programme to corporates and their employees, specifically targeting a healthy mind and attitude," says Lee Hitzeroth, Sales Manager at Rosebank College National Office. Rosebank College is an educational brand of The IIE.

"By offering motivational talks and offering advice to employees on opportunities to upskill themselves, we wish to equip employees with the tools they need to excel in their careers and to be lifelong learners," adds Hitzeroth.

On Monday 23 May 2016, Lillian Bususu, National Graduate Development Manager, led motivational talks with over 200 employees from Norton Lambrianos Attorneys, with the aim to inspire and motivate. Starting off with an example of a dedicated worker and how employees can make the most of their current situation to catapult them to the position they want to occupy, Bususu pushed employees to introspect and to see what they could change about their current situation to get ahead.

Simphiwe Khanyile, Supporting Administrator in the Legal Department at Norton Lambrianos Attorneys, attended the workshop and was moved by the new approach. "It was so reviving, and this talk really helped me a lot to see things differently, especially with regards to complaining. What an amazing way to start our Monday," he said.

Donna Steyn agreed: "This was really motivating. I learnt a lot and enjoyed the different point of view."
