Research and innovation to improve livelihoods is the foundation for work done in the UKZN's School of Engineering's seven disciplines, and is the focus of its annual Research and Innovation Exposition, which takes place on Friday, 8 November 2019 at the Unite School of Engineering building, Howard College Campus, from 15h30-16h30.

UKZN's Engineering Research Expo was established to showcase the research and innovation pioneered over the past year by leading research academics and post-graduate students within the school. There are projects across the disciplines of chemical, electrical, electronic, computer, civil, mechanical and bioresources engineering on display.

Engineers provide the necessary infrastructure for countries like South Africa to generate wealth and provide job creation. Besides highlighting the cutting-edge research being undertaken, the event celebrates the immense and essential contributions made by industry that have ensured the school's research and innovation efforts are relevant and applicable to the country's needs.

Support and partnership from industry ensure students and staff are able to undertake research and develop meaningful solutions.

Projects on display highlight research into waste and climate change; energy, food and water engineering; sustainable transport solutions; thermodynamics research; power systems research; structural engineering and computational mechanics; environmental and fluid mechanics; pollution and sanitation research; satellite applications; aerospace systems; and powerline robotics, among others.
