To celebrate Nelson Mandela's 94th birthday, on 18 July 2012, FedGroup launched an exciting initiative. Based on the premise of making a difference, the initiative received a strong response - with enthusiastic mountain bikers flocking to the Group's Facebook page to join.

The FedGroup Family closed the first part of the initiative on 31 July 2012 and crowned CEO of EAP Active, Garth Oliver, as the winner of the lucky draw. Due to a prior racing commitment in Cape Town, Oliver is unable to take part in the initiative that culminates at the FedGroup Berg & Bush 2Day event, in November this year. Despite this, Oliver is a passionate supporter of the initiative.

“The FedGroup Berg & Bush Nelson Mandela initiative is a fantastic idea that supports a great cause. In today's socio-economic environment, education is so important. Every little bit helps - especially something as basic as stationery packs.”

According to Oliver, the initiative driven by the FedGroup Family should prompt others to follow suit. “Hopefully this initiative will inspire other companies and mountain bikers to make a difference by investing in the education and future of underprivileged children.”

Oliver has presented his FedGroup Berg & Bush team entry to his colleague, Nicky Irvine, who will be tackling the 115km adventure with Nick Flores. The duo are excited to take part in the initiative and play their part in making a difference.

The team has 76 days to prepare for the FedGroup Berg & Bush 2Day event, which takes place on 3 and 4 November 2012. Track their progress by visiting FedGroup's Facebook page: www.facebook.com/fedgroup.

The FedGroup Berg & Bush Nelson Mandela initiative hopes to ensure that 94 children from the SOS Children's Village are given the basic tools they would require for a successful 2013 school year, and in doing so, contribute to improving the chances of a productive South African society.
