ITWeb Africa (www.itwebafrica.com) has unveiled its in-house developed applications for Apple iOS and Google Android smartphones and tablets.

The apps are available for download for free from both Apple's iStore (for the iPhone and the iPad) and Google's Android Market. A mobile Web site, itwebafrica.mobi, has also been created.

ITWeb Africa, launched in May 2012 by South Africa's leading technology publisher, ITWeb, offers top business technology news from across the continent.

Being the sister publication to ITWeb.co.za, ITWeb Africa presents an African perspective on the continent's tech news, with over 10 correspondents present in key markets such as Kenya, Nigeria and Zimbabwe.

Editor Gareth van Zyl says ITWeb Africa is the first African-focused technology publication to launch apps for Apple iOS and Android.

"We are driving ahead with providing a seamless experience for readers on all devices, especially as mobile is fast becoming the most prominent channel for accessing the Internet in Africa," says Van Zyl. "It's further indicative of our push to be the number one online publication focusing on African technology news and analysis," adds Van Zyl.

Sticking to the ITWeb's colours of red, white and black, ITWeb Africa's apps offer a condensed version of the online experience. Readers can browse through content categories, including top news, editor's choice, readers' choice, company news and video. They also have the ability to comment on articles using the apps.

Other channels that readers can access to keep up to date with ITWeb Africa include the publication's daily newsletter, which they can subscribe to on both ITWeb.co.za and ITWebAfrica.com's Web sites.

It also has an active community on Twitter (http://www.twitter.com/itwebafrica) and Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/itwebafrica), which readers can follow.
