ITWeb Brainstorm joins MTN's Women in ICT Awards as media partner

ITWeb's Brainstorm magazine has joined MTN's Women in ICT - Partnership for Change Awards as the print media partner.

The initiative, the first of its kind in the South African ICT sector, is the brainchild of MTN SA CEO Mteto Nyati, and was launched earlier this month in partnership with Kagiso Media. It aims to acknowledge and celebrate the contribution made by female professionals in the growth of SA's ICT sector, and to attract women professionals to the industry by highlighting the plethora of career opportunities.

Ranka Jovanovic, editorial director of ITWeb Brainstorm, says there are many inspirational women in the South African ICT sector, but not nearly as many as there should be. "It's so important to celebrate gender diversity and encourage more women to build a career in ICT, which has been, and remains, a male-dominated industry."

Brainstorm's editor Ben Kelly says the industry needs to acknowledge the innovative and entrepreneurial spirit that South African women are known for.

Eligible women in the ICT sector will be recognised across a wide range of categories in line with the contribution they have made across a range of disciplines. The winners will be announced on 31 August at a gala function in Hyde Park.

The nomination process has already begun, and members of the public are invited to nominate eligible women here.

Nominees will be judged by a team of professionals, including veterans of the ICT sector, public and private sector leaders, and entrepreneurs.

Leadership Recognition Award - this aims to recognise senior female executives in the ICT sector who have proven depth of experience in leading change, influencing business outcomes and leading teams for positive impact on the organisations they lead.

Innovator Recognition Award - will recognise women who have introduced new methods, ideas, or products that are contributing in one way or the other to the delivery of a bold, new, digital world.

Entrepreneur Recognition Award - aims to recognise women-run enterprises that are viable businesses making inroads in the ICT sector.

Graduate Award - will recognise a top ICT graduate from a tertiary institution, who finished top of her class. The award is open to females who graduated in the immediate year preceding the awards ceremony.

Outstanding Woman ICT Professional - will recognise an extraordinary professional who has demonstrated proven results in her area of work within the ICT sector.

Policymaker / Public Sector Awards - recognises a public sector professional who has used ICT to improve government service delivery and/or recognises women policymakers whose work through legislative processes has had a positive impact in ICT.

Excellence in ICT Journalism Award - recognises a journalist who has contributed immensely to creating a better understanding of the ICT industry through her reporting.

Community Builder - a woman who has made a considerable difference in her community through ICT or use of ICT tools.

Lifetime Achiever Recognition Award (Women Pioneer) - recognises a woman who has longstanding success in the ICT industry, has demonstrated a remarkable entrepreneurial spirit and has continually stayed ahead of the curve.

Other partners of the event are Kagiso Media's Jacaranda FM and East Coast Radio.
