SITA's CEO to present at ITWeb Business Intelligence & Analytics Summit 2018
ITWeb has announced that Dr Setumo Mohapi, CEO of SITA, has come on board the ITWeb Business Intelligence & Analytics Summit 2018.
Mohapi will present on data-driven public-private innovation at the event, which will be held on 14 and 15 March at The Forum, in Bryanston.
A veteran of the ICT sector, Dr Mohapi has brought a wealth of knowledge and experience to SITA since joining the agency, a result of many years of experience holding and serving in various executive positions both in the public as well as in the private sector.
His past experience includes some of SA's largest companies, including CEO of Sentech, CTO of Telkom Media, COO of IWAYAFRICA, and CTO of ICT-Works. He has also held senior positions at Internet Solutions, Transnet and Neotel.
Mohapi has a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering and computer science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), a master's degree in electrical engineering also obtained for MIT, and a PhD in electrical engineering (telecommunications) from Wits University.

Big data
In addition, SITA will be running the executive roundtable morning of the 14 March, themed: 'A deep dive into big data'.
The workshop will centre on how the proliferation of smart devices, complemented by the move to cloud-based transacting, the explosion of social media and Internet traffic, are creating new opportunities in big data analytics.
According to SITA, these developments require changing mind-sets to becoming data-driven, building the ecosystem of data products and services that add value. Such ecosystems will inherently drive us to achieving data-driven governance, improving lives through data science and analytics.
"Building such an ecosystem will necessitate the establishment of a world-class data science capability across government," the agency adds.
The workshop aims to change mind-sets to become data-driven, and will cover data-driven innovation, including data as a service (DaaS), and building an ecosystem of data products that add value. Finally, it will cover data-driven governance, and how lives can be improved through data science and analytics.
