SA's authoritative business IT voice, ITWeb's Brainstorm, has appointed Ben Kelly as its editor.

A technology media veteran, analyst, editor and writer, Kelly started as features writer at Engineering News and went on to edit Computer Reseller News, FinWeek's Communications and Technology section and its Platform magazine. He joins ITWeb after six years as Special Projects editor at Mail & Guardian.

Kelly says it's an honour to take over editing a title with the pedigree of Brainstorm. "Having been a fan of the title since its first issue, even when I was writing for publications that were technically in competition to it, it's great to finally be part of the history of this magazine.

"Finding ways to innovate and expand the reach of the title are key objectives, but ensuring that our loyal readers get a magazine that they look forward to reading each month remains the most important task we have," he says.

In the fifteen years of its existence, Brainstorm has become one of the most respected business magazines in South Africa and remained true to its mandate: to cover the issues of critical importance for business users of technology through top-class journalism and photography.

"We are delighted to have Ben Kelly at the helm of Brainstorm," says Ranka Jovanovic, ITWeb's editorial director. "The digital disruption trends have pushed Brainstorm to constantly reexamine and reaffirm its relevance to its readers, and Ben's wealth of knowledge and experience, and his deep understanding of both the business technology and the media sector, will be invaluable as we redefine the strategy to find a happy balance between print and digital."
