ITWeb Brainstorm launches second annual Brainstorm CIO Survey

Johannesburg, Aug 18, 2015

Following the success of the inaugural Brainstorm CIO Survey last year, ITWeb Brainstorm, in conjunction with Telkom Business, has launched the Brainstorm CIO Survey 2015.

"Last year, we set out to identify local CIOs' daily challenges and long-term vision. The response was overwhelming - 158 CIOs from across major industries participated," says Ranka Jovanovic, ITWeb's editorial director.

"Everyone wants to know what today's CIOs are thinking, how they are shaping SA's ICT landscape, what keeps them up at night, how much budget they have and what they are spending it on," she adds.

She says although there are currently several international CIO surveys, Brainstorm CIO Survey is the only truly South African one, focusing specifically on issues unique to SA's CIOs.

The inaugural survey resulted in a ground-breaking research report aimed at helping business leaders, technology suppliers, and, above all, CIOs themselves evaluate how their strategies compare to those of their peers.

It found that the country's top IT execs have little time for innovation or digital strategy, as most effort is spent on IT/business alignment. ITWeb's content strategist Jon Tullett, the author of the 79-report, says an even more valuable report is anticipated this year. "Not only have we improved the questionnaire, but we now have the 2014 benchmark in place to track trends and improvements across each sector, and the industry as a whole."

He says this year's survey will delve even deeper into what SA's CIOs want, and how their needs are met, or not, by what local vendors are offering. "The research will encourage local CIOs to be blunt, and speak truthfully about what is working for them and what is not, the strategies they are adopting, and how they are aligning IT with business needs," Tullett adds.

Brainstorm CIO Survey 2015 will target CIOs and other IT executives at the same level, from SA's top 1 000 organisations, as well as leading public sector organisations.

The survey is by invitation only, but interested CIOs can be sent the link on request. It is being conducted by ITWeb's survey team, from DATE TO DATE.

As in 2014, the results will be released at a glittering Brainstorm CIO Banquet on 1 October, attended by CIOs that were surveyed, attendees including senior vendor representatives, industry analysts, and selected members of the media. All respondents will receive an invitation, but seats will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
