The recent month-long teacher's strike, coupled with the extended school-holidays during the world cup period, has put Grade 12 learners in a fragile situation as they move closer to the final examinations.

The lack of time for preparation is a cause for concern.

theTeacher newspaper, which is an independent title in the Mail&Guardian group, in partnership with an experienced content developer, has prepared a set of worksheets covering various subjects to assist learners.

“There are already a number of initiatives to ensure that Grade 12 learners are given as much help as possible for revision, however, more needs to be done to ensure that they don't suffer the consequences of ill-preparation,” says Primarashni Gower, editor of theTeacher.

The subjects that will be covered in the worksheets include mathematics, science and accounting and will aid learners in preparing for their final exams.

“These areas have been chosen as they are perceived to be the most problematic, but other core subjects are under discussion,” explains Gower.

The worksheets will be printed on A2 paper and consists of eight A4 worksheets.

“They will include questions as well as answers, which will provide learners with the opportunity to study by themselves or in groups,” confirms Gower.

The layout of the worksheets allows learners to cut out the various parts of the worksheet and use them individually or share them among members of a study group.

theTeacher is offering sponsorship opportunities for parts of or all of the worksheet.

The booking deadline is 29 September 2010.

“The learners are victims of the strike action, and it will be tragic to see them suffer. Let's help them tackle these exams with success,” concludes Gower.
