As part of its 25th birthday and "CakeCrush" celebration, MTN South Africa created dog-friendly cakes to be used as props in creative video content that has been developed for MTN SA's social media platforms.

The cakes - made using wheat flour, bananas and free-range eggs, with mashed potato icing, coconut sprinkles and dog-friendly food colouring - were then donated to the Roodepoort SPCA.

"The idea was twofold," said Jacqui O'Sullivan, Executive for Corporate Affairs at MTN SA. "First and foremost, we wanted to bring a little light into the lives of the rescue dogs at our local SPCA in Roodepoort by offering them something unusual and different from their normal food. Secondly, while we were going to be smashing cakes in celebration of our 25-year milestone, we wanted to avoid food wastage."

MTN also donated a year's worth of dog and cat food to the Roodepoort SPCA, which amounts to R100 000.

The concept of smashing cakes was used to visually illustrate MTN's summer CakeCrush game in which customers can win a share of R100 million in prizes. Customers need simply download the new MTNApp and register to play. The MTN CakeCrush campaign ends on 31 January 2020.
