MTN unveils rollout plans, pricing for FTTH
Following the successful deployment of fibre to the home (FTTH) at the gated estate of Monaghan Farm in Johannesburg, MTN South Africa has announced plans to deploy this cutting-edge network nationally, including a range of competitive pricing.
MTN conducted a successful pilot of FTTH when it connected the residents of Monaghan Farm, an eco-friendly gated estate north of Johannesburg, to a high-speed fibre network capable of delivering speeds of 100Mbps.
Customers can build a package to suit their lifestyle, or choose from 10GB, 20GB, 50GB, 100GB and 500GB data bundles, and line speeds of 20Mbps, 50Mbps or 100Mbps. As part of the free connection, MTN will also install a state-of-the-art WiFi-enabled device.
Customers who opt for a 20GB data package with line speeds of 20Mbps will pay a total monthly fee of R794, which is inclusive of line rental.
Subscribers who choose the 50GB data bundle with line speeds of 50Mbps will pay R1 014 a month, while the total monthly cost of a 100GB package at 100Mbps line speeds is R1 389*.
Consumers will derive multiple benefits when they get connected to MTN's FTTH network, including the ability to stream high-definition videos and music videos, play online games, use Apple TV, access Netflix, DStv Online and feature-rich Samsung TV using a superfast network.
MTN subscribers can also back up their data on the MTN Cloud, which they can access anywhere, anytime. In addition, subscribers to MTN's FTTH service can also make free VOIP calls on-campus to fellow subscribers, or off-campus calls at superior voice quality.
Says Larry Annetts, Chief Marketing Officer at MTN SA: "The pilot MTN conducted at Monaghan farm has been very successful and we have seen great uptake from the residents. The positive outcome from that experience has emboldened us to roll out this cutting-edge network at competitive prices. MTN has invested billions in its network infrastructure and we can't wait to raise the bar a notch and improve the seamless experience our customers have grown accustomed to."
*These prices are subject to change depending on the amount of civil works required at any particular estate.
