MTN launches MTNPayAsYouGo data roaming, a first in South Africa
MTN South Africa has announced the availability of its innovative prepaid data roaming offering that enables PayAsYouGo and TopUp customers to access the Internet while travelling abroad from as little as R2.00 per MB.
"Prepaid customers have been able to roam on voice and SMS but not on data, and given how connected the world is today, being able to browse the Internet, access e-mail, conduct online banking using your mobile device of choice while travelling around the world has become essential for everyone. That is the reason we have been working hard to design a data solution for prepaid roaming," says Larry Annetts, Chief Marketing Officer: MTN South Africa.
Activation of pre-paid roaming has to be done prior to departure by dialling *111#. As soon as customers land in their country of destination, they will receive an SMS notification and customers can recharge using foreign vouchers in the countries listed below by dialling *222*PIN# or online via their bank accounts.
"Customers who travel to countries where MTN is operating will roam for R2.00 per MB; however, data roaming rates as listed in our Web site will apply in countries where MTN does not have a presence. Customers can also check these rates by dialling *111#," continues Annetts.
He adds that prepaid roaming customers will have the additional benefit of checking their airtime balance in real-time. "This will give them the peace of mind, control over their spend and freedom to roam without the fear of experiencing any bill shocks when they return home," concludes Annetts.
MTN Roaming recharge is available in the following countries and networks.
