New Director wants to make a difference

The NWU Mafikeng Campus has appointed a new Director: Internationalisation, Fundraising and Community Engagement. Dr Miranda Nomso Mgijima has taken up the post on 1 January 2016 and will be working in the office of the Vice-Rector, Research and Planning, Prof Eno Ebenso.

Dr Mgijima obtained her BA Ed degree from the National University of Lesotho and her master's in education from the University of Bristol in the UK. She then proceeded to do her doctoral studies in the Department of International and Comparative Studies at the Institute of Education, University of London, and obtained her Doctor of Philosophy degree in 1991 and returned to South Africa in July of the same year. She also holds an Advanced Certificate in Labour Law from the University of Pretoria as well as a certificate in Human Resource Management from Unisa.

Dr Mgijima worked as one of the first Deputy Permanent Secretaries in the Eastern Cape Department of Education when it was established in 1994. In 1997, she took a transfer to the National Department of Education where she started the Quality Assurance Chief Directorate and later worked as a Deputy-Director General in the Gauteng Department of Education. She was engaged by the University of Pretoria as a mentor for school managers in the Mpumalanga Province who were studying for the Advanced Certificate in Education (ACE) - Leadership Programme. She later joined Unisa as a lecturer in the Department of Leadership and Management before moving to the ETDP SETA as a project Manager.

When asked about her new employment she had this to say: "I am very excited to be part of the NWU Mafikeng Campus and the new challenge at hand. I would like to make a difference and contribute to the outputs of our Institution."
