NWU-Mafikeng campus students to attend African Moot Court
Two LLB undergraduate students, Andile Stengana and David Mtshali, have been selected from a pool of hopefuls to attend and represent NWU-Mafikeng Campus, at this year's Annual African Human Rights Moot Court competition.
This prestigious event is to be held from 1 to 6 September at the University of Nairobi in Kenya.
Established in 1992, 1 027 teams from 139 universities, representing 49 African countries, have participated in this premier event over the last 22 years.
This competition aims to prepare and skill a new generation of lawyers to argue, with lucidity, cases of alleged human rights violations before the newly established African Court on human and people's rights, which has been operational since 2008.
This programme is an annual event organised by the Centre for Human Rights in partnership with a faculty of law of any university that plays host for that specific year in the continent.
Stengana and Mtshali say opportunity comes but once in a man's life.
"We are very happy to have been selected out of many hopefuls to take part in this prestigious event. To us, not only will we be flying the NWU-Mafikeng Campus flag high but we get the opportunity to acquire skills that are critical when pursuing a career in Law."
"I've never been out of the country, so, being presented with the opportunity to see and experience another country is a huge accomplishment for me, personally," David Mtshali shared with the team during the interview.
