On 26 June 2014, more than 100 postgraduate students attended a one-day International Leadership Career Workshop at the NWU Mafikeng Campus. The career workshop was hosted by the CSRC, together with IBM.

The aim was not only to motivate students about their studies, but also to educate and inform them about career overviews, internships, research roles in the corporate world, the role of Internet in landing a job and emerging technologies.

A powerful talk on women's empowerment was inspirational, especially for the female students. Students were also advised on how they could market themselves using social networks. The danger of posting messages and inappropriate pictures on the Internet was also highlighted.

The audience, mostly from the generation Y group, were all in agreement that the passionate speakers, which were from Australia, United States, Canada and India, used their unique abilities and expertise to connect with them and capture their attention.
