Research professor appointed as panel member by NRF

North-West University, Mafikeng Campus, senior research professor in mathematics at the Faculty of Agriculture Science and Technology, Professor J Moori, has been appointed by the National Research Foundation (NRF) to serve as a panel member and convener of the Specialist Committee for Mathematical Sciences.

This appointment will see Moori serve as convener of the committee as well as a member of the assessment panel constituted to assist the NRF in evaluation and rating of researchers in accordance with specified evaluation and rating criteria.

His appointment is for a period of four years, having begun in 2014, until 2018.

"As a researcher, I am happy that through this rating I can and will be able to make a valuable contribution in my field. I am passionate about mathematics and insist on always producing quality research papers at all times," Moori said.

Moori is an international expert in Finite Simple Groups, Computational Group Theory, Representation Theory of Finite Groups and Applications of Finite Groups to Combinatorial Designs and Geometries. He has a B rating by the NRF and is a fellow of UKZN. He is also an honorary senior research fellow at the School of Mathematics at the University of Birmingham in the UK.
