The North West MEC for Health, Honourable Madoda Sambatha, appointed Prof Leepile Alfred Sehularo, an associate professor in the North-West University's (NWU's) School of Nursing Science at the campus in Mahikeng, to the North West Mental Health Review Board for a second term.

This appointment, made in terms of Chapter IV (Four) of the Mental Health Care Act 17 of 2002, is effective from 3 February 2020 until 31 January 2022.

"I am honoured and humbled to represent mental healthcare practitioners on the board. This will give the board members an opportunity to learn from each other and take the North West Province to greater heights," said Prof Sehularo.

The powers and functions of the Mental Health Review Board include, among others, considering appeals against decisions of the head of a health establishment, and making decisions with regard to assisted or involuntary mental healthcare, treatment and rehabilitation services.
