On 22 April 2014, the Marketing and Communication Department in the North-West University Mafikeng Campus organised a four-day annual career exhibition. The exhibition started on a high note in the big white tent next to the Campus Great Hall, where hundreds of high schools in the North-West province attended.

Although it drizzled, that did not stop exhibitors engaging with enthusiastic grade 12s. More than 16 higher institutions of learning, together with different companies, fed learners with detailed information.

2014 is a significant year for South Africa as it celebrates 20 years of democracy. It is also a very important year for Mafikeng Campus as it celebrates 10 years since the merger with Potchefstroom.

Consequently, the Mafikeng Campus is now a campus of choice. This can been seen by the large number of students who are currently studying in Mafikeng Campus, who say they were inspired and motivated when they attended the career exhibition while in grade 12.

Although there were several universities, the majority of matriculants said they are inspired by the stories about the campus, vibrant student life and the development on campus. Others said not only is Mafikeng Campus affordable, but they also see it as their second home, a place where they can begin their future.

Hopefully, that has motivated them enough to come and join the campus next year and continue to live by the motto: "It all starts here."
