Prof Masood Khalique from the North-West University's (NWU's) campus in Mahikeng was the keynote speaker at the fourth International Workshop on Nonlinear and Modern Mathematical Physics (NMMP-2017) conference.

The conference - jointly organised by the Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), the NWU and the University of South Florida, USA - was held in Putrajaya, Malaysia from 4 to 8 May 2017.

Prof Khalique shared his presentation - "Symmetry analysis of a coupled (2+1)-dimensional hyperbolic system" - on the first day of the conference. He also chaired a morning session on the second day of the conference. He was accompanied by his former PhD students - Prof Ben Muatjetjeja, Dr Abdullahi Adem and Dr Gabriel Magalakwe.

The aim of this international conference was to bring together academics, researchers and scientists to share their knowledge about nonlinear and modern mathematical physics. Prominent scholars from countries such as China, the US and Iran attended the conference and more than 50 papers were presented.

The NMMP-2017 serves as a good platform for members of the scientific community to meet with each other, share new research, exchange information and discuss current issues.

Prof Khalique has been a C-rated NRF researcher for the past seven years. His research interests include differential equations and modern group analysis of differential equations.

"The NMMP-2017 was a fruitful conference with eminent scholars from all over the world participating," said Prof Khalique.

The NMMP takes place every two years. The previous conference, held in 2015, was organised by the NWU and held in Cape Town.
