Property mogul honoured at NWU graduation

The North-West University (NWU) conferred an honorary doctorate on Keith Bothongo during its annual Spring Graduation ceremony held at its campus in Mahikeng on Thursday, 17 October 2019.

The two-day graduations signalled the end of a long yet exciting journey for the more than 246 graduates who received their degrees and diplomas. A total of 20 doctorates were awarded.

Bothongo was the first black South African to be registered as a property valuer in 1996. In 2018, he was awarded the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award by the South African Institute of Black Property Professionals.

He was born in Soweto, Johannesburg, and currently resides with his family in Milton Keynes in the United Kingdom. He is a member of the University of Buckingham Development and Innovation Advisory Board.

According to his CV, Bothongo is the patron of the Keith Bothongo Foundation. His love of education and passion to empower people led the foundation to funding, to date, 70 students from underprivileged backgrounds on full scholarships at various universities throughout South Africa.

Well known and respected in the real estate business across the globe, he owns and is chairman of the Bothongo Group, a multibillion-rand property company, and has interests in a number of South African and international commercial ventures.

Bothongo has a Bachelor's degree in economics and statistics, master's degrees in administration and international management, as well as an LLB degree. He is currently enrolled towards a doctorate in business administration at the Swiss Business School in Zurich, Switzerland.

The NWU is privileged to award this honorary doctorate to this formidable man.
