NWU academic appointed to Mental Health Review Board

Dr Leepile Alfred Sehularo, psychiatry and mental health nursing lecturer in the Nursing Department on the Mafikeng Campus of the North-West University (NWU) has been appointed to the North West Provincial Mental Health Review Board by the MEC for Health, Dr Magome Masike.

This appointment was made in terms of the Mental Health Care Act 17 of 2002.

The board's duties will commence on 3 April 2017 and will come to an end on 31 March 2019.

The functions of this board will include, among others, considering appeals against decisions made by the head of the health establishment, making decisions with regard to involuntary mental health care and providing for treatment and rehabilitation services for mental health patients. It also includes considering 72-hour assessments made by the head of the health establishment and reviewing appeals for transfer of mental health care users to maximum security facilities.
