NWU Mafikeng Campus holds spring graduations
The spring graduations of the Mafikeng Campus at the North-West University were held from 15 - 16 October at the Great Hall on the Campus.
During the two-day ceremonies a total of 349 students graduated from the five faculties of the campus that is the faculty of agriculture, science and technology, faculty of commerce and administration, faculty of education and training, faculty of human and social sciences and faculty of law.
Traditionally the spring graduations or October graduations, as they are also known, are not as large as the graduations held in May. However, what is of significance is that a total of 23 doctoral degrees, 51 master's and 26 honours degrees were conferred over the two days meaning that almost a third (100) of the degrees will be awarded to postgraduates.
This number provides ample evidence of the university and staff's commitment in growing its research, developing students and contributing to the national economic development of the country.
Among the guest speakers that addressed the graduations were Dr Bismark Tyobeka, the Chief Executive officer of the National Nuclear Regulator of South Africa, Louisa Zondo, Chief Executive officer of the Bertha Gxowa foundation and Phiwayinkosi Mbuyani from Umbono Capital.
