Former CSRC President receives a Doctor of Laws Degree
North-West University, Mafikeng Campus former Campus Students Representative Council (CSRC) President Iyayambwa Mwanawina was awarded a Doctor of Laws (LLD) degree during the autumn graduation ceremony held in the campus Great Hall on 8 May 2014. His Doctoral studies are on regional integration and international law.
Mwanawina was the President of the CSRC during the 2010/11 term of office. He is the first former CSRC President to graduate with a Doctorate from this campus.
Born in Zambia, Mwanawina began his career in Botswana where he completed his primary and high school education. He then obtained his LLB and LLM degrees at North-West University, Mafikeng Campus before he enrolled for his Phd with the same campus.
In 2011 the Faculty of Law recruited him for the position of researcher.In 2013 he joined the Vaal Triangle Campus of NWU as a Lecture in the Faculty of Law.
This trained divorce mediator is a member of the African Network of Constitutional Lawyers (ANCL) and the International Association of Constitutional Law (IACL).
In addition to his current research work he also makes his presence felt in Community Volunteer Programmes. He is also a House Parent at the School Residence at the Vaal Campus where he spends a good amount of his time mentoring students on commitment and leadership.
When asked how he feels about his achievement Dr Mwanawina had this to say:
"I thank the Lord for giving me the strength to soldier on in academia. My sleepless nights would amount to nothing if it weren't for His blessings."
The Executive Dean of Law and Mwanawina's supervisor enthused: "Prince Mwanawina has been a very conscientious diligent scholar and promising academic. He has a very promising career ahead of him."
The Manager of Student Affairs Mr Kagiso Ntshwe also congratulated Dr Mwanawina by saying;
"This is an honourable moment, for such a young man to achieve what many only dream of achieving. I am proud to say, the North-West University has produced a leader and positive role model for student leaders coming behind him. I salute Doctor Mwanawina for his Phd accolade and congratulate him for the hard work he has put in to achieve this milestone."
