UKZN sits pretty in yet another international university ranking

The University of KwaZulu-Natal has done it again, making the cut in yet another prestigious university international ranking list.

In the Times Higher Education (THE) Emerging Economies Rankings 2019, the University of KwaZulu-Natal made it into the list of 100 best universities in emerging economies; securing 49th place. UKZN was bested by UCT, which came in at nine, Wits at 11 and Stellenbosch at 24. The University of Pretoria followed at 78th place, while UJ secured a spot at number 99.

Internationally, the first and second place went to China's Tsinghua University and Peking University respectively. China also claimed 72 spots among the 440 universities, while India took 49 spots.

The Emerging Economies Rankings shines a spotlight on universities in 43 countries classed as emerging economies, including Brazil, India, Mexico, Taiwan, Turkey and the Czech Republic.

The ranking uses the same 13 performance indicators as the World University Rankings, measuring teaching, research, research impact, industry income and international outlook, but the weightings are adjusted to reflect the characteristics of this group of universities.

Only institutions in countries in the Financial Times Stock Exchange (FTSE) Group's Country Classification Process are eligible to be included in this ranking.
