UKZN excels in SAICA board exams

Graduates from the School of Accounting, Economics and Finance have excelled at the recent South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (SAICA) Board Examinations. UKZN is currently ranked seventh out of 15 universities after achieving a pass rate of 81%, which is an improvement from last year's 73% pass rate.

The test was taken in January and is the first part of two rigorous external examinations that accounting graduates have to pass in order to qualify as chartered accountants.

Other achievements include UKZN having 114 ITC passes, which is sixth highest in the country, and having the fourth highest transformation pass rate in the country. Furthermore, UKZN students were ranked third in the country for the Ethics and Auditing question, and were placed fourth for Financial Accounting. Another feather in the cap was achieved through student Ahmed Ally getting the third position in the exams.

Dean and Head of the School of Accounting, Economics and Finance Professor Mabutho Sibanda congratulated and thanked the accounting lecturers for their determination in preparing the students for the exams. He also encouraged them to keep on thriving for the success of the students and the UKZN community.

"This achievement is a realisation of the hard work done by both academic and professional services staff, who are the greatest asset for the school. The school has dedicated and committed staff who serve students diligently and with passion. The improvement in ITC examination results is testament to this assertion. As a school, we still feel there is room for improvement. We have put in place a variety of interventions to enhance student experience and success, and we expect this to be realised in the near future. We endeavour to become the best accounting academy in South Africa," he said.
