A team from VUT was crowned the international winners of the Konica Minolta University Contest at an event in Berlin on 29 April.

They competed against other national winners from Spain, Bulgaria and the Netherlands, among others.

Included in the first prize is a trophy, award certificate and free tickets, flights and hotel accommodation to attend and present their winning idea: "Sustainable Printing Service" at the Pioneers Festival in Vienna, Austria from 31 May to 3 June.

The Pioneer Festival is one of the top technology shows in Europe and unites promising innovators with investors. The VUT team, comprising Prince K Madumise; Busisiwe Rekhotso; Innet Mhlongo and Letlhogonolo Thipe and led by Dr Folasayo Olalere is, therefore, looking forward to this event with great excitement.

Besides the awards, Konica Minolta's European Business Innovation Centre and Konica Minolta SA have shown keen interest in collaborating with VUT in implementing their idea and also extending the implementation to other universities in Africa and Europe.

As an added bonus, Konica Minolta has proposed that the next International University Event be hosted in South Africa.
