VUT to set the bar high at Rand Show 2017

The Rand Show 2016 was undoubtedly one of the most exciting initiatives the Vaal University of Technology took part in. It is the largest consumer exhibition in Africa and attracts in excess of 200 000 visitors annually.
VUT is at it again this year, having selected an even bigger stand. Heinrich van der Merwe, Operations Manager of the VUT Southern Gauteng Science & Technology Park (SGSTP), says he wants to make the Rand Show 2017 a legacy project for the Vice-Chancellor and Principal, Professor Irene Moutlana.
"The motive is to put our university out there on the map, by showcasing our latest technology and innovation; we also hope to attract as many students as we can for the coming year," he said.
In 2016, the VUT stand, which was situated in the Science and Technology exhibition hall, was visited by thousands of various industrial partners, prospective students as well as potential clients. With innovation being a buzzword on everybody's lips at the moment, the Science and Technology hall gave a platform for stakeholders and industry to explore many of the innovative technologies that will assist their businesses as well as tickle creative ideas in the not too distant future to re-imagine and reinvent.
The purpose and importance of the university's participation is mainly to stimulate youth interest, showcase and celebrate inventions and achievements, improve on VUT's brand building, education and training, showcasing social responsibility and corporate social investment projects, career opportunities at the university, as well as stimulating interest in chemistry and more science and technology related streams.
This year, the VUT team will be even bigger, as various departments have been drawn in to take part, with every one carrying a specific theme to attract visitors. The ENACTUS students will also be there to showcase VUT's multifaceted entrepreneurial skills.
The Rand Show will take place from 14 to 23 April 2017 at the NASREC Expo Centre in Johannesburg. Be sure to bring your whole family, and friends, along for the edutainment and fun-filled activities.
