MBDA supported anti-GBV programme, Helenvale

The Mandela Bay Development Agency (MBDA), an entity of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, collaborating with social partners in Helenvale, would like to invite interested media representatives to attend and cover these community-led initiatives aimed against gender-based violence. 

In addition to strengthening the message against GBV over the 16 days, the social partners have dedicated six programmes over six days as key highlights of the campaign.

The six-day programme is as follows:

1. Opening day programme: Community mass march against GBV

  • Date: 26 November 2021
  • Time: 8am for 8:30am – 1pm
  • GBV community march from Barcelona Youth Centre to Helenvale Resource Centre
  • Various community leaders and GBV activities will lead

2. Men and women programme

This initiative is aimed at empowering men and women on preventing and dealing with GBV at home and in communities.

  • Date: 29 November 2021
  • Time: 8:30am – 1pm
  • Venue: Helenvale Resource Centre

3. Young parents programme

This initiative will assist young girls on early pregnancy prevention, dealing with parenting and mitigation against GBV as young parents.

  • Date: 30 November 2021 and 4 December
  • Time: 8:30am – 1pm
  • Venue: Helenvale Resource Centre

4. Pre-primary schools/early child development

This initiative aimed at empowering scholars will take the form of a puppet show in communicating protective behaviour.

  • Date: 3 December 2021
  • Time: 8:30am – 1pm
  • Venue: Helenvale Resource Centre

5. Closing day – Anti-GBV IMBIZO

This initiative will be an engagement with various entities and government departments to established co-ordination and sustainability of efforts to combat GBV.

  • Date: 9 December 2021
  • Time: 9am – 1pm
  • Venue: Helenvale Resource Centre
