Executive Mayor Cllr Athol Trollip launches exciting Molo Festival of Triathlon
Molo Festival of Triathlon | Overview
Molo Nelson Mandela Bay residents, your city is about to welcome more than 4 000 international Ironman athletes coming to race the Isuzu Ironman 70.3 world championship. This prestigious global event is coming to Africa for the very first time in the same year we celebrate the centenary of the late Tata Madiba.
The Isuzu Ironman 70.3 World Championship takes place over two days, on Saturday and Sunday 1 and 2 September, but that is not all. The Molo Festival of Triathlon hosted by your city has been designed to get all of us involved.
1. Schools triathlon development clinics
To kick off the Molo Festival of Triathlon are three sport development clinics for the young ones, aged 10 to 14. These events will happen in Uitenhage on 28 July, Motherwell Peace Park on 4 August, and Walmer Sports Grounds on 18 August. Come and see how we introduce the young ones to the sport of triathlon, and prepare them as future champions.

2. Championship swim race
On 11 August, you get to swim the Isuzu Ironman 70.3 world championship 2018 course at Kings Beach. Yes, you get to swim the 1.9km course, and who knows, you might set the world record! That's not all, as plenty other beach-side events are available for the whole family.

3. Hobie Beach Cultural Village
Molo Nelson Mandela Bay, why not pop by Hobie Beach and be mesmerised by the unique sounds and art of the Easter Cape, as we showcase our rich culture to the world. Arts, crafts, music and dance from 23 August to 3 September.
4. Spectator Zones/Fan Parks
If getting to the race village at Hobie Beach or getting close to the race course is trouble, then don't worry, the municipality has set up Fan Parks in Uitenhage, Motherwell, Gelvandale and Walmer. Pop by and catch the action on big screens, with lots of entertainment on stage.

5. Finisher Shirt Friday
Here in the Bay we say every Friday is Finisher Shirt Friday. Yes, we give you permission to go to work wearing your proud finisher or event t-shirt. Be it a 5km park run, fun walk, mountain bike race, cycle race, ocean swim, pool swim, half marathon or ultra; put it on and take a photo to share with the hashtag #molofinishershirtfriday
The Molo Festival of Triathlon is sure to get all of us involved as we host the Isuzu Ironman 70.3 world championship 2018 on Saturday 1 September (ladies' race) and Sunday 2 September (men's race).
The Molo Festival of Triathlon is presented by the Mandela Bay Development Agency on behalf of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality.
